About Me

I would consider myself one of life's searchers; someone who has spent many years trying to figure out my purpose on the earth and where I fit in.

After years working in a variety of jobs from being a primary school teacher and private tutor, to a shop assistant, office admin assistant, cleaner, call centre operative and many more (you name it, I've probably tried it!), I discovered counselling after a difficult time in my personal life.

Counselling helped me to make sense of what I was going through, gently supporting me while my world fell apart. It played a vital role in my healing journey and set me off on a new path in life.

Therapy With Janine

I recognised in myself that helping people was my true nature and I wanted to be able to support others in the way my therapist had supported me.

I decided to retrain as a counsellor myself in 2017, completing my Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling in 2021.

Why choose me?

Counselling sometimes involves talking about some difficult or painful issues and I consider myself to be warm, friendly and non-judgemental. I’m passionate about helping other people and am a naturally empathic and compassionate person. Seeing the impact that I can make is so rewarding and I feel privileged to be able to help.

Sometimes people come to therapy for help with specific issues; others are looking for help figuring out what the problem is that may be holding them back and affecting their life. Whatever has led you here, counselling can most definitely help and I would love to hear from you.

I believe that the relationship between us is of utmost importance so I offer a free telephone consultation so that we can both make sure we are a good fit for each other and you can have confidence that you have chosen the right therapist to help and support you.

Experience

After qualifying in 2021, I set up my Private Therapy Practice and for the first few years, I rented a room that was also used by other therapists, to see my clients from. Although things were going well, I reached a point where I wanted to create my own special haven for myself and my clients; a place I could add my own special touches and make it a really relaxing and tranquil space for clients to come and share their stories with me.

In 2025, I was fortunate enough to build a counselling and therapy room in my garden and the feedback from clients has been unanimously positive!

Alongside building my practice, I worked for 2 years in a local Secondary School as a counsellor, supporting children and young people from Year 7 right up to Year 13.

I found this work challenging but enormously rewarding and I am a passionate advocate for early intervention when it comes to mental health and wellness.

This led me to an exciting project with a friend and colleague that I trained with to set up a Not-For-Profit organisation supporting children, young people, families and parents.

Through our organisation, we devised and delivered workshops for children, teaching emotional regulation skills and delivering psychoeducation, helping them to make sense of their big feelings. We were awarded National Lottery Funding and our workshops were picked up by a local Special Educational Needs School who awarded us a contract to run weekly workshops in school to support their students.

We also launched a parent group aimed at supporting parents of anxious children or those who had received a diagnosis of Autism/ADHD/PDA, which was very well attended and much needed in the area.

Alongside this, we then set up a counselling agency, and also became a placement provider for Trainee Counsellors who were completing their 100 hours of clinical practice.

I am hugely proud of the work I’ve been involved with, particularly in my local community. In 2024, I took a step back from these businesses to focus on my family life and on continuing to build my Private Practice.
